Painting has had the ability to take me out of the everyday and into a space of elevated sense of truth and experience. This occurs for me with any genre — still life, figure, landscape, or pure abstraction. I do not seek a narrative but look to the work to carry its own meaning. In a successful painting, there is no right or wrong but only a point of honesty. Often, a work of art may escape the capability for its meaning to be sufficiently captured in words but still has a completeness and the ability to communicate.

 

In my painting, it is through the use of color, light, and space, along with an evolving set of motifs developed over the years that serve as a foundation for my work. I use these to explore themes of synchronicity, awareness, memory, and existence.
