Christa Nye
I paint primarily on canvas or cradle board using mixed media and collage elements building multiple layers and adding or subtracting elements. As I move through my world, I see abstractions and my mind takes me to unexplored worlds. Whether you call it fantasy, make-believe, or altered perceptions, my paintings are a stream of consciousness that takes me away from the mundane. Recently, I have been painting while listening to music. Chopin is inspirational for me, and I am swept away to another time and place. I let my mind wander and my hands move along with the music while painting,
My thoughts and emotions merge with the canvas. The past and present, events, locations, and what I have experienced throughout my life, become visible and alive while painting. As I immerse myself in my subconscious thoughts, like dreams, the paintings reveal bits and pieces of my inner world. The process helps me find peace and clarity and is a way of sorting out my thoughts. Each brush stroke or mark leads me from one thought to another. As the painting begins to “speak” to me it leads me on a path of exploration. I feel astonishment and delight with what might lie ahead.
I have recently started working 3 dimensionally. Below are the first assemblages I have created.
