APRIL 2016: Revolving Brass Forms - Stephan Soihl + artists Howard Neufeld and Steve Tilden

A science enthusiast and artistic formalist, Stephan Soihl melds these primary interests into minimalist kinetic sculptures in brass, oil, and plexiglas. With each new iteration of his kinetic oeuvre, Soil adds a layer of complexity. This time he incorporates electronic sounds into his motion-activated, microcontroller-driven sculptures. Soihl is also a master watercolorist and a small number of his delicate renderings of the Willamette Valley landscape are included in the show.

Joining Soihl this month are two other artists whose work moves, or seems to move. Blackfish member Steven Tilden collaborates with Soihl to present The Tinkle Tube, a concatenation of ducting material and fans that produces an air stream, which moves hanging metal rods and plates to produce a tinkling sound. Howard Neufeld rounds out the exhibit with an offering of three-dimensional sculpted paintings that imply motion.

Artist Talk, Saturday, April 30, 1 pm at Blackfish Gallery.
