Where will visual art take us in the next decade?
A glimpse of the future can be gleaned this month at Blackfish Gallery as some of Oregon’s newest and most gifted makers unveil their work in the 21st Annual Recent Graduates Exhibition. Thirty graduating artists, selected by the art faculties of their respective schools, present work in photography, sculpture, painting, artist books and more.
Blackfish organizes and sponsors the recent grads exhibition each year because we are committed to supporting arts education and providing a springboard for Oregon’s emerging artists.
New this year, Blackfish presents the Lawrence Duckler New Arts Award to the artist who wins "best in show" as determined by the popular vote of visitors to the gallery before July 8th. The award comes with a $200 cash prize and the opportunity for a month-long installation in Blackfish’s Fishbowl window gallery. The award is named for Dr. Lawrence Duckler, a beloved physician, father, husband, friend and staunch supporter of the arts in Portland, who believed in the importance of arts and artists in our society and the impact of their imagination on our present and future lives.
