Annual Blackfish Recent Graduates Exhibition, 2007

Our 2007 Recent Graduates show represents the newly realized dreams of 26 artists recently graduated from 13 of Oregon’s degree-granting arts programs. It is the culmination of years of hard work, and the exciting and hopeful beginning of a life devoted to exploring visual tools for expression and communication.

Each year, degree candidates are recommended for inclusion in the show by faculty from their respective schools based upon high standards of achievement, a commitment to furthering their skills, and the degree of success they achieve. The end result is a showing of the best of what Oregon arts programs are turning out. And this year’s participants are, once again, primed and ready to offer the visual arts scene fresh takes on innovation, new responses to creative challenges, and works that show they are fully capable of pushing past the known, and into the realm of the imagined.

And if you’ve been thinking about developing an art collection of your own, this show is a great opportunity. Works by emerging artists are frequently offered at very reasonable cost, and each of our Recent Grad shows have included pieces of exceptional insight and extraordinary skill. In addition, should you purchase works during this show, you’ll be contributing to the first, very important steps in the career of a local artist.

First Thursday opening is July 5, 6-9, and many of the graduates will be on hand to answer questions about their work. We hope you will join Blackfish Gallery in welcoming these 26 new artists into our vibrant Portland art community.
